Why does a foreigner need a tax ID code?

The answer is simple. With it, they can carry out legal actions.

Can a foreigner obtain a tax identification number without being present at the Tax Office?

Yes, they can. However, to submit documents for issuing the tax ID code and then receiving it without the foreigner’s presence, their representative must have a notarized power of attorney to perform this legal action. In addition, if this document was issued outside of our country, it requires legalization and apostille.

If a foreigner has already obtained a residence permit in Ukraine, do they need to translate their passport to obtain a tax ID?

No, they do not. In this case, the tax ID code is issued based on the residence permit.

Can the Tax ID be restored if it is lost?

Yes, it is possible. However, the foreigner would have to fill out an application and provide a notarized translation of their passport document, a copy of the page with the last border crossing stamp, or a residence permit in Ukraine. Including a copy of the tax ID is also desirable if saved.

Is it possible for a foreigner to refuse to obtain an identification code?

No, it is not possible. Because to carry out financial transactions, they need a tax identification number. For example, suppose a foreigner who conducts entrepreneurial activities in our country needs to obtain a Tax ID. They will be fined with the subsequent confiscation of the manufactured products and funds received.
